'Pru'

(New photo of Pru to follow)
A big THANK YOU to everyone who sent donations to help towards Pru's special food and treatment for her painful joints.
We all feel so proud of Pru who has now got a new lease of life after loosing so much weight. She has gone from a dog that could barely take a step without crashing to the ground, to a happy playful girls that runs and enjoys life to the full.
Much praise and our sincere thanks go to Kate, her devoted owner who Pru absolutely adores. Kate agreed to foster Pru when she first arrived and it wasnt long before she knew she wouldn't want to part with her and so signed the adoption papers for her. Kate has taken Pru for alternative medical treatment for her painful joints which have included acupuncture, massage, hydrotherapy, homeopathy treatments. All of these treatments have had a positive affect on Pru and helped her mobility.
We all wish Pru many more happy years ahead.
A Note from Kate:
Pru now has a steady weight of about 29kgs. She walks about a mile a day and is up and down the stairs like a two year old. She's the first off the sofa at the sound of a cupboard door opening. She sometimes jumps in the car but mostly let's me lift her.
The most wonderful thing about her is her nature. It's taken me over a year to teach her to sit! She is a stubborn moo and won't budge an inch for anyone. Having said that, she is the sweetest creature with all the people and animals she knows well. My other dog Muffin now kisses her before me if we come into a room together. She'll never be on her own ever again.
Pru Bear is the best thing to hit our lives in years and whatever time she spends with us, it'll all have been well worth it. I'd do it all again tomorrow.
Love
Katex
This was Pru's sad story:
Pru's elderly Irish owner had overfed Pru for many years, leaving her so very obese she could barely stand up. The owner had gone in to hospital, then for six weeks Pru was visited by a relative for just one short visit per day to be fed and let out. When the owner died, Pru was given in to ASH rescue in Dublin, who then brought her over to us in November. She had severe cystitis, could barely walk more than a few steps and had never eaten out of a bowl before (her owner had fed her by hand).
After a few weeks in one of LRRSE's valued foster homes, Pru is completely over her cystitis and is taking pain-killers for her joints, which is allowing her to enjoy short walks. She is of course on a strict diet, which is helping her to enjoy life again.

Update from Pru's fosterer January 2006:
I've put Pru on a diet again, as she'd plateaud at 37kgs. I shall take her to the vet this week for a weigh in; I think she's started losing weight again. She is not too bothered by the hot weather and is in and out of the dog flap and up and down the stairs regularly. We now have a little jog round the garden in the evening; watching her run is a real joy. I don't think she's done it since she was a puppy. She is also picking play fights with Noggin and Muffin, although she doesn't really know how to do it. She's learning though, which is the main thing. Her skin isn't too bad at the moment. All in all she's doing really well but thinking of the years she's lost makes me very sad. Kate xx
