£1 for the pound appeal

These are just a few of the dogs that we have saved from the pound.

Pound dogs

Every week we try to help save the life of a Labrador who, for one reason or another, has ended up in an Irish dog pound. Some of these dogs are unclaimed strays (many of whom have been ruthlessly thrown out onto the streets) and some of these dogs are surrendered because their families can no longer keep them. The strays are kept for five days and, if unclaimed, will then be destroyed. The surrenders sometimes are destroyed on the same day if the pound is full. These dogs range in age from a few weeks old to the last weeks of their lives. The dog pound is not a nice place to be for any dog either young or old. The kennels are often cramped metal cages in which they receive one small meal a day and with only a bowl of water for company. The dogs are frightened, bewildered and will just shiver in darkness of their surroundings.

Please help us to help them.

To transport a dog over here costs us £65, we are often charged another £10 to vaccinate the dog and some dog pounds also ask a release fee of £15. Sometimes when the dog arrives they may need a short spell in one of the private kennels we use, which costs £10 per day. Occasionally a dog will need medical treatment before we can re-home him and this can be very costly.

So… if you would like to help save the lives of more beautiful Labradors and Labrador-crosses then please tape a pound coin between two pieces of thin cardboard, pop it in an envelope and post to:
